[music playing] DAN NOLD: We designed the church actually to be used by the community, not just us.

But then as we got out here, what became really obvious right away was that the most beautiful part of the property was not inside the walls, but outside the walls.

Quickly, we said-- we want this place to feel more like a public space, a public park, maybe, than a sacred private kind of space.

And many mountain biking association came to us and said-- hey, we would like to put a bike path and then a skill park.

And so they raised the money, and we said you can use the land.

And those became very easy decisions because we already had a mindset that said, we want the public to come out here.

As my daughter at the time started riding for the local youth mountain biking team, it was just really clear there was no place for these kids to practice.

If every two pedal strokes, they're falling down and getting crushed on rocks, it's really hard to keep the energy up in that situation.

And even though kids were the initial catalyst, the reality is, we've got all ages, all abilities out here enjoying the property, benefiting from the beginner-centric vibe to everything that we have out here.

The future phases, so to speak, is really just a hopefully ongoing phase around how do we use the property for events.

And so this fall was a good example.

We had the first ever state level youth mountain biking race here-- the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Cycling League pickle is what they're known for short-- PICL.

They had a central conference race here at the end of September.

The crews are 6th through 12th graders who love shredding trails.

They're from multiple school districts.

So we are a composite team in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Cycling League, and it's local for us, it's easy to get to, and it's a great place for our students to do trail work as well.

We've spent almost 200 hours doing trail work.

It's been great over the course of a season to see a kid really come into themselves, really gain confidence on their bike.

And while it's confidence riding your bike, it translates into confidence in life as well.

I rode a bike when I was younger, but if I did it now, I'm sure I would hurt myself.

So I walked the trails, I run the trails.

I go down to the pons.

I've even baptized people in the ponds.

So we use the land.

The other thing that's nice is it's this all-generation, what we call lifetime sport.

So kids get a bit more skill set on the bikes.

And now all of a sudden, mom and dad and kids can all go ride in Rothrock or enjoy Harvest Fields.

It's been great riding with my kids just because it's something we can do outside, outdoors.

One of the reasons why I'm a coach is because I feel like the more kids we can get out in the woods, the more likely they're going to become advocates for protecting it and maintaining it and making sure we continue to have it as a resource.
